- In advance of the Dec 22nd 2020 Cabinet meeting the Motor Industry requested that the sale and supply of motor vehicles continue to remain open. The Industry is ideally placed to facilitate the requirements of social distancing and other health and safety issues in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This would protect employment in the sector.
- Key issues for SIMI in Budget 2021 include taxation policy in relation to motor vehicles, particularly VRT, Road Tax and BIK. In this context SIMI would like to see a reduction in VRT with a particular focus on lower emitting cars and the extension of reliefs and grants for Electric Vehicles and PHEVs.
