- NHI wrote to the Minister for Health regarding seeking clarification regarding a reference in the recently published Productivity and Savings Action Plan 2025, specifically under section 1.8,.
- Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) welcomes the recent adoption of the United Nations Human Rights Council resolution establishing an intergovernmental working group to draft a new UN convention on the human rights of older persons. This represents a landmark moment in global efforts to advance the rights, dignity, and well-being of older people, and reflects years of work by advocacy groups, older persons themselves, as well as civil society.
- NHI wrote to the Minister on concerns about the proposed increase of almost 17% in personal injury awards recommended by the Judicial Council and currently before the Minister for Justice. Increasing awards will inevitably cause our members insurance premiums to rise at a time when operational costs are already challenging.
- NHI wrote a letter to follow up with the Minister for Health and to reiterate our commitment to engaging with the Government on the future of nursing home care as a cornerstone of Ireland’s health and social care sector.
- NHI wrote to the Minister for Health concerning an agreement reached for organisations funded under legislation at the Workplace Relations Commission on Monday, 10th March. The agreement has again discriminated against staff in private and voluntary nursing homes, and we request an early meeting to discuss its implications as the continuing cycle of home closures continues.

- Representations to Ministers concerning the E-liquids Products Tax and its implementation via self- declaration mechanism rather than a tax-stamp. Hale also referred to research commissioned from Forvis Mazars which indicates a likely significant increase in illicit sales of vapes, a significant loss of tax revenues to the state, damage to the health outlook of adult smokers depending on vaping to help them quit or reduce their smoking and an additional compliance burden on retailers.
- Email to members of the Oireachtas concerning the E-liquids Products Tax and concerns around the mechanism chosen to implement the tax via self-declaration rather than as a tax-stamp. Hale also referred to research commissioned from Forvis Mazars which raised several important policy considerations around the E-Liquids products tax including the potential for a surge in illicit and grey market sales.
